Programs and Services

The East Los Angeles Women’s Center delivers a comprehensive range of services to support and strengthen vulnerable families, especially newly arrived immigrants from low-income communities. Our clients must overcome tremendous obstacles to secure health and safety for themselves and their families.  Most come to us with issues related to domestic or sexual violence; parenting and child abuse or neglect; access to employment and education; substance abuse; and HIV/AIDS. Currently, the agency provides direct assistance to more than 900 women at risk and their families, including nearly 600 pre-school age children. Programs include:

Sexual Assault Prevention and Support

  • Confidential 24/7 bilingual/bicultural crisis hotline counseling
  • Peer counseling for rape and sexual assault survivors
  • Support services for friends and family members
  • Hospital accompaniment for survivors in need of emergency medical care
  • Advocacy services: law enforcement, criminal justice, and social service
  • Community awareness and prevention presentations

Domestic Violence Prevention, Support, and Counseling

  • Mujeres en Accion - Individual and group counseling for survivors
  • Community awareness and prevention presentations
  • CalWORKS case management

HIV/AIDS Health Education and Training

  • Bilingual HIV/AIDS Hotline information
  • Referrals to HIV test sites, treatment and support services in LA County
  • Community awareness and prevention presentations
  • Promotora Health Educator - certificate training program
